Cat6 handles 10 Gigabit at shorter distances and is adequate for most office runs today. Cat6A supports 10 Gigabit at full distance and handles higher-power PoE with less heat, which matters for dense access point and camera deployments. Since cabling outlives everything plugged into it, Cat6A is often the better long-term value despite the higher install cost.
It means each run is tested with a certification tester against the standard for that cable type, producing a pass/fail result with measurements. It's different from a simple continuity check, which only proves the wires are connected — not that the run will perform at rated speed.
